About

 Where it all began…

I fell in love with travel many years ago while doing my 4-month college internship in Japan. Returning to the US, I knew I’d never survive a “normal” 9-5 job. So, I discovered the wonderful world of aviation and spent years taking advantage of the freedom of flying for free! My life became one grand adventure after another and slowly evolved into using my flight benefits for more meaningful humanitarian trips.

Many Years later….

I quit my job in aviation sales, rented out my condo, got rid of my “stuff”, and left my life in the US to start over. I didn’t know where and I wasn’t quite sure how. I just knew I didn’t ever want to regret NOT trying something new.

Where to? Kenya? Ghana? India? Vietnam? The possibilities were endless.

I settled on Vietnam, spending 3 months volunteering in Hanoi learning how to teach English. I also had to get over my total fear of public speaking because I knew I had to teach to survive. Speaking English was my only real skill!

It wasn’t an easy road, but through all the stress, fear, and uncertainty of starting over, I hung on to the wise words of Steve Jobs:

“…you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever.”

I followed my intuition and trusted that it would all work out in the end. I turned down job offers from China, considered Korea, and after floating around Southeast Asia for a few months, stumbled into my new life in Taiwan.

Taiwan has been good to me but it is time to move on. To where? Guatemala? Nice? I’m still throwing darts at the map and we’ll see what sticks!

My purpose…

Encouraging adventures. This blog offers tales of expat life in Taiwan (and life after Taiwan), travel tips and stories, and profiles of some of the most inspiring people I’ve met. I hope my stories from the road will entertain you and inspire you to get out there!
